The man who led the agitation by the Rampur Dalits against Azam Khan against demolition of their houses in Rampur, has been given ticket by the Bahujan Samaj Party.
The party general secretary, Nasimuddin Siddiqui, announced the candidature of Tanveer Ahmad Khan while addressing a party workers meet in Rampur on Thursday. He will be fielded against Azam Khan, a senior Samajwadi Party leader and a cabinet minister in Akhilesh Yadav government in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The SP leader is party MLA from Rampur.
“Tanveer Ahmad Khan is an able and competent candidate who can end the rule of Azam Khan who is handling the city like a tyrant,” said the BSP general secretary.

Tanveer Ahmad Khan was recently released after spending few days in prison after he was arrested on charges of breach of peace over his activism in the agitation by the Dalits. He led the Dalit agitation against the proposed move by the Rampur civic body which is headed by a close aide of Azam Khan, to demolish the Valmiki colony.
Tanveer Khan is an ex-Congress man who contested against Azam Khan in 2012 Assembly polls and was the runner up in the polls. Tanveer, a radiologist by profession runs ‘Sewa Samiti' hospital in Rampur.

“My aim is to ensure that Rampur prospers. The tyrannical attitude of Azam Khan has ensured that every industry which Rampur was famous for is destroyed. He is not an accessible leader for the common people,” Tanveer Ahmad Khan said.
