BSP stages walkout in Assembly over U.P. law and order situation

The Bahujan Samaj Party staged a walkout in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly after the Speaker disallowed the Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya to raise the issue of law and order situation in the State.

Swine flu in the State was the other issue which figured in the House on Thursday with the leader of Congress Legislature Party Pradeep Mathur pressing for a debate on the subject. The Congress member was joined by Suresh Kumar Khanna of Bharatiya Janata Party who said swine flu and anarchy were the two important issues confronting the State.

Alleging that Uttar Pradesh had relapsed into a state of anarchy , the Leader of Opposition said incidents of murder, loot and dacoity have continued unabated. Mr. Maurya said such was the anarchical situation that nobody was feeling safe.

While the Leader of Opposition slammed the Samajwadi Party Government, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mohammad Azam Khan rebutted Mr. Maurya’s allegation and said there is no anarchy. The Minister accused the BSP leaders of creating anarchy. Mr. Khan said it is a conspiracy to destabilize the Government in order to grab power.

The BSP MLAs were in their feet in protest against the allegations levelled by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister. Even as the Speaker, Mata Prasad Pandey tried to restore order, the BSP staged a walkout. The Congress and BJP’s demand for a discussion on swine flu deaths was also rejected by the Speaker.

Another walkout was staged by the BSP members, this time over the issue of shortage of potato seeds. The party was not satisfied with the Horticulture Minister Paras Nath Yadav’s reply. The Minister said due to a increase in demand for potato seeds this year there were difficulties in getting seeds available according to the demand.

Shyamdev Roy Chaudhary of BJP lamented the backwardness of Eastern Uttar Pradesh and said it was backward in all respects. The BJP member said despite the Chief Minister taking interest in the industrialisation of the State, the progress has not been satisfactory. Referring to the Government’s reply that out of the 20 memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with entrepreneurs, work has started on four projects, Mr. Chaudhary wanted to know how many MOUs dealt with eastern UP.
