A PIL was filed challenging the marriage of Sannya Salve, daughter of former Solicitor General of India Harish Salve, that was held in Goa under Special Marriage Act

Bombay High Court at Goa on Monday issued notice to Goa government, returnable on July 21 on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition challenging the marriage of Sannya Salve, daughter of former Solicitor General of India Harish Salve. The marriage was held in Goa under Special Marriage Act.

A local activist lawyer had filed the petition contending that the marriage was null and void as the Special Marriage Act was not applicable to Goa though the Government had hurriedly made it applicable through an Extraordinary gazzeettee notification ahead of the marriage.

He has also pleaded that the Act be declared void as Goa has in place its Portuguese Civil Code governing registration of marriages for all communities.
