The Assam State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has promised to indentify and expel all illegal migrants staying in Assam, but promised to protect the Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, and the Scheduled Caste people from Bangladesh.
The BJP manifesto for Assam, which will be an addition to the party’s manifesto for 2014, stated that the religious minorities (Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs) and the Scheduled Caste people from Bangladesh should not be treated as illegal migrants.
The party promised to complete the work on updating National Register of Citizens on war-footing, finish the work on barbed wire fencing along India-Bangladesh border, and increase deployment of Border Security Force personnel to four times.

The manifesto released by BJP’s national spokesmen M.J. Akbar here on Thursday, assured measures for constitutional, economic, social, and cultural safeguards for indigenous people of the State.
On the big dams under construction and proposed in Arunachal Pradesh, the party promised to arrange for political and expert-level discussions among the Centre, Arunachal Pradesh government, and Assam.
It also promised to take steps for declaring Assam’s flood problem a national one.

State unit of the BJP on Thursday released its manifesto for 2014 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections promising to make efforts to achieve special category status for Odisha.
Till date, successive governments, especially the Congress, have been ignoring the demand for special category status for the State, which languishes at bottom of almost all development parameters, said Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP’s national general secretary.
Veteran BJP leader Biswa Bhushan Harichandan and the BJP’s in-charge of party affairs, Arun Singh, were present.
“The State has seen the looting of its natural resources, farmer suicides, distress sale of agricultural produce, deteriorating law and order situation, violence against women and children, unemployment, and migration of labour. Similarly, lakhs of people have been cheated in chit-fund scam,” said Mr. Harichandan.
The State BJP has also focused on agriculture sector. “Agricultural loan will be interest-free for the first year, one per cent in the second year, two per cent in the third year, and three per cent subsequently. There shall be provision of loan waiver in the event of natural calamities,” it said.
The party said the State mining policy would be amended with emphasis on the government taking the lead in harnessing minerals and no mining activity would be undertaken without the consent of local stakeholders. An Odia University, if voted to power, would be established for development of the language and culture.
It also mooted to make State Women’s Commission free from political interference.
The chairperson should be nominated from judicial services and efforts would be made to establish fast track courts at district levels to deal with crimes against women.
In a major announcement, the party promised to increase the entry age from 35 years to 40 years for government jobs.
