BJP moves Election Commission against Modhwadia

November 10, 2012 02:36 am | Updated 02:36 am IST - Ahmedabad:

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia for comparing Chief Minister Narendra Modi to a monkey, though without naming him, at an election rally.

Breach of code of conduct

This was a breach of model code of conduct, the BJP said in the complaint.

At a rally in Saurashtra region’s Junagadh district on Thursday, the Congress chief described Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as a lion and, in an obvious reference to Mr. Modi, said a monkey sitting atop a tree was trying to challenge him.

“He is like a monkey who is challenging the king of the jungle to a fight from the top of a tree. He should know where he stands. The king of the jungle will not climb the tree but the monkey will have to come down some time,” he taunted.
