BJP leaders join JD (U) in Bihar

Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Santosh Kumar Kushwaha and MLC Manoj Kumar Singh joined the Janata Dal (United) on Friday in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The latest entrants are set to aggravate the unease of JD (U) leaders, which have voiced their concerns over people from other parties getting preference in ticket distribution over existing party leaders.

Mr. Kushwaha from the Baisi assembly, who resigned from the State Assembly, seat is tipped to get a JD (U) ticket from Purnea, while Mr. Singh is expected to contest from Siwan.

On Thursday, State ministers Narendra Singh and Brishen Patel were vocal about their dissatisfaction with the process. They pointed out that the JD (U) did not have a parliamentary board, which usually decides on ticket distribution.

The JD (U) is set to declare its list of candidates in Delhi on Saturday.

"There is a consensus on all the seats now. National president Sharad Yadav was in Patna for three days. He has also spoken to the Chief Minister. Mr. Yadav has the list," State president Bashishtha Narayan

Singh said.

The rebel BJP leaders said they were feeling stifled in their party, which was currently running on the dictates of a few leaders.

Prominent Bihar BJP leader Giriraj Singh, who has been the most vocal supporter of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, is also upset over not getting the Begusarai seat.
