Senior BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha on Saturday sought to blame party leaders in Bihar for “cancellation” of rallies to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as star campaigner for the ongoing Assembly polls in the state.

Mr. Sinha, who has been lately making veiled attacks on the party leadership, also took potshot at the Prime Minister for the last minute “cancellation”.

“A situation that led our star campaigner PM to cancel his Bihar rallies at the last minute...sending a negative message???” Mr. Sinha tweeted.

According to sources, it has been decided that the number of rallies to be addressed by Mr. Modi in Bihar will be reduced.

“Though some local dictatorial leaders in Bihar are solely responsible for creating the mess and an undesirable situation in Bihar. Hope, wish and pray that despite some teething troubles and electoral problems, we do as well as we expected in the Bihar elections,” Mr. Sinha, who was cabinet minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, said in a series of tweets.

On Friday, he had expressed concern over the spiralling price of pulses and asked the Centre to take urgent steps to contain it. “Dal prices touch Rs 200. Urgent steps required by Centre to contain this! We have seen the tears that onion prices have brought in the past,” Mr. Sinha had said.
