A Delhi court on Saturday issued bailable warrant against Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel in a 2008 case of alleged rioting and damage to public property.

Mr. Goel, who was elected to the Delhi Assembly on an AAP ticket, was at that time with the BJP. The court had on an earlier date of hearing imposed a fine of Rs. 2, 500 on Mr. Goel for not appearing before the court. The court recorded his non-appearance on Saturday as well and fined him.

The court directed the Delhi Police to serve the warrant to Mr. Goel to ensure his presence before the court on May 30, the next date of hearing.
