Second-time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ashok Parnami took over as the party’s Rajasthan unit president in the presence of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and senior BJP leaders at a crowded function here on Thursday.

Ms. Raje, who quit as the State party head after becoming the Chief Minister, handed over the post to Mr. Parnami while calling upon the party workers to ensure the success of “Mission 25” to win all the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the State.

Mr. Parnami, a former Jaipur Mayor, has been elected from the Adarsh Nagar Assembly constituency in Jaipur for the second successive term. Almost all the former State BJP presidents, such as Arun Chaturvedi, Om Prakash Mathur, Bhanwarlal Sharma, Gulab Chand Kataria and Ramdas Agarwal, were present at the function.

Hundreds of party workers of BJP front organisations gathered at the party’s State headquarters to greet Mr. Parnami on the occasion. Ms. Raje said the new party president’s role had become crucial after the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections and hoped that he would strengthen the party and enthuse the cadres to bring victory to the BJP in the upcoming general elections.
