Panaji: The Goa Congress is yet to take a decision on an alliance with the Goa Forward Party (GF).

A delegation of Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, and former Minister Aleixo Sequeira, recently met the New Delhi leadership to press for an alliance. However, a few leaders like Goa president Luizinho Faleiro and AICC secretary Girish Chodankar are opposed to it.

At a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Faleiro said, “For the last five years, these so-called leaders did not have time to come to the Congress office [here]. I have succeeded in making them to go on a pilgrimage to the Delhi office.”

When asked about the statement made by Mr. Chodankar on Friday — that the Goa Congress would like to win people’s trust before an forming alliance — Mr. Faleiro said, “Girish and I are on same page on this issue. After the debacles in the previous elections, we have to win back the trust of the people. We are in a process of cleansing the party.”
