August 01, 2014 09:12 am | Updated 09:12 am IST - LUCKNOW:

In the 2009 case of arson in Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s house, the State Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) has reportedly submitted its probe report indicting over a dozen Lucknow police personnel including four officers for serious dereliction of duty.

Official sources said that the 400-page report points fingers at the role played by then DIG Prem Prakash, then ASP Harish Kumar, then Circle Officer of Hazratganj B.S. Gabriyal and then Inspector of Hussainganj Baliram Saroj. The report also indicts at least a dozen other policemen for having failed to prevent the crowd from burning the house of then UP Congress chief under Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party government in the state on July 15, 2009.

Following the CB-CID report, the police would file FIR against these police officials. The state government had order the CB-CID probe a month after the incident after the High Court pulled up the state government for the incident and its probe. Ms. Joshi’s house was ransacked and then burnt by a mob after she allegedly made some derogatory remarks against then Chief Minister and BSP leader Mayawati. The police had filed case against some senior BSP leaders.
