Amarinder campaigns against Akali Dal

December 29, 2014 10:09 pm | Updated 10:09 pm IST - CHANDIGARH:

Congress MP Capt Amarinder Singh during the launch of his book 'Honour and Fidelity' in New Delhi recently.

Punjab Congress has launched an all-out offensive to prevent the Akali leadership, especially Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal, to broad-base the issues and revive their anti-Centre political posturing.

Even as the Akali Dal announced two meetings at Chandigarh and Amritsar on Tuesday to launch preparations and mobilisation of workers and supporters for the January 5 dharnas along the international border to press the BSF to stop narcotics’ smuggling, former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh advised the ruling alliance partners to stop playing mind games with each other.

“If you are not comfortable with each other, better call it a day. Those in power and in a position to act do not look good holding dharnas,” he said. Capt. Singh said that the Akali protest against a Central agency like the BSF for failing to check international drugs smuggling was unjustified as the party was part of the Union government.

Drugs, a concern

“Moreover Punjab has been devastated not by the consumption of heroin that is smuggled in, but by the synthetic drugs that are manufactured locally under the patronage of Akalis leaders,” he said.
