Ahmedabad airport put on high alert

August 12, 2012 02:36 am | Updated 02:36 am IST - AHMEDABAD:

Security has been beefed up at the Ahmedabad airport following intelligence inputs that Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba could attempt to hijack a plane.

Besides intensifying checking of passengers, the authorities have put three additional companies of the Central Industrial Security Force at the airport, official sources said. The city police has also been put on standby.

Earlier, security was strengthened in Gujarat, particularly in Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara, and at important religious and public places following information that three terrorists have sneaked into the State after hiding for sometime in Delhi. The inputs had suggested that the terror group could attempt attack on or around Independence Day.
