The prosecution has failed to prove the involvement of both the Acharyas in the Sankararaman murder case, according to defence counsel.
Contending before the Principal District and Sessions court here on Friday, counsel for Vijeyendra Saraswathi and his brother M.K. Raghu said that the prosecution had failed to establish the motive of the accused.
Senior lawyer Lakshmana Reddy told Principal District and Sessions Judge C.S. Murugan that as per the prosecution charge, the conspiracy to murder Sankararaman took place in the chamber of Jayendra Saraswathi. It was overheard by T.A. Kannan, son-in-law of Sankararaman, and police constable Kannan, who was posted at the Kanchi Mutt.

Both witnesses had contradicted their statements given to the police and before the magistrate at the time of investigation. No witness has spoken about the conspiracy in the court, Mr. Reddy said. The defence arguments will continue from Monday.
