It was robotics at the two-day workshop organised at Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC) to impart hands-on training to students in building their own robots.
The Robotics Club of PEC – MARAKRITI – in association with Robosapiens India and IIT Bombay organised the robotics workshop on March 15 and 16. About 59 teams comprising a total of 270 participants from various colleges in and around Puducherry attended the workshop, according to a press release.
“Robotics has been gearing up in the last two years across the country. But it has not reached students in Puducherry due to lack of exposure.

The objective of the workshop, and those organised previously by us, is with the aim of taking robotics closer to students,” Secretary of MARAKRITI and final year student of B.Tech Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering at PEC Ramsiva Linga said.
With robotic kits distributed to the participants, construction of line follower, edge avoider and light follower type robots were taught in detail to the participants.
One of the organisers, S. Balaguru, who is also a student of PEC, said first year and second year students of circuit branch in engineering were the target of the workshop.

“All the participating teams constructed robots. We held a competition and two teams were selected for the best entries,” he said.
Mr. Linga said there were plans to conduct similar classes next year too.
Professor and Head, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering Department at PEC R. Ananda Natarajan presided over the workshop, the release said.
