Vision document for Jaipur by January 31

The Task Force on Jaipur appointed by the Rajasthan Government has decided to prepare a vision document and formulate an action plan by January 31 next year for making the State Capital a world-class city by strengthening its infrastructure, conserving the heritage and designing the growth on new patterns.

The Task Force, headed by Principal Urban Development and Housing Secretary G. S. Sandhu, met here this past weekend to chalk out the strategy for devising the action plan and consider various aspects of social and economic activities as well as the availability of civic facilities in the Pink City.

According to an official release here, town planning experts, conservation activists, development consultants and Government officers attending the Task Force’s first meeting emphasised the need to protect Jaipur’s “basic structure” while providing world-class facilities to the citizens and developing satellite townships it.

Mr. Sandhu said the Task Force would invite suggestions from people belonging to a cross-section of society as well as practitioners in various sectors for improving the quality of life in the capital city and coordinate with Jaipur Development Authority, Avas Vikas Sansthan and other institutions for evolving the future strategies.

“The vision document will be the basis for our work and guide those responsible for implementing the action plan,” said Mr. Sandhu.

B. G. Sharma, who retired as the State Public Works Department Secretary, made a presentation on the sectors which ought to be incorporated into the vision document. JDA Commissioner Sudhansh Pant said the city should strive to build an identity for itself in the knowledge sector.

The participants deliberated on the issues of rainwater harvesting, traffic management, maintenance of roads, improving the greenery, rehabilitation of slum dwellers, removal of encroachments and promotion of tourism as the core sectors that deserved attention in the world-class city project for Jaipur.

Among others, Faith Singh of Jaipur Virasat Foundation, Chief Town Planner P. K. Pandey, Avas Vikas Sansthan Managing Director A. N. Purohit, Jaipur Municipal Corporation CEO Lalit Mehra and consultant Feedback Venture’s representatives attended the meeting.
