Newly elected Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani is set to be sworn in along with deputy Chief Minister designate Nitin Patel and other ministers at Mahatma Mandir conference hall on Sunday.

On Saturday, Rupani resigned as Gujarat BJP president following his elevation for the top job in the state as Anandiben Patel's successor.

"We have handed over the letter to stake the claim to form the government to the Governor, who has invited Mr. Rupani and others for swearing in on Sunday," said Gujarat BJP in charge Dinesh Sharma.

The BJP president Amit Shah held a series of meetings with Mr. Rupani and other top leaders to finalize names of the ministers to be sworn in and also selection of new party president ahead of the next assembly polls scheduled to be held in December 2017.

"Several changes in the ministry are expected. It is expected that OBCs, SCs and tribals will get fair representation in the ministry," said a senior party leader who was involved meetings with Shah and others.

The party sources said a leader from OBC or Kashatriya will be made party president of the state unit because two Patels are already union ministers: Purushottam Rupala and Mansukh Mandavia and while Nitin Patel is deputy CM and a Jain is Chief Minister.

"Amitbhai will decide on the new party president and name will be declared as early as next week after the swearing in of the government," the party leader added.
