Uttar Pradesh Cabinet okays Metro extension to Ghaziabad

Would provide direct access to Delhi and the NCR

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Wednesday gave the green signal to the extension of Metro rail project in Ghaziabad. The Cabinet gave its nod to the proposed memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Ghaziabad Development Authority and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the extension of Metro rail project from Dilshad Garden in Delhi to New Bus Station in Ghaziabad.

According to an official spokesman, the extension of the Metro rail project would provide direct access to New Delhi railway station and the National Capital Region (NCR) from Ghaziabad and its adjoining areas.

The Cabinet meeting presided over by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav, also decided to expedite the works on the north-south corridor of the Metro rail project in Lucknow.

Bids would be invited for undertaking the civil works in the first phase of the north-south corridor from Transport Nagar to Charbagh railway station. The Cabinet further approved the acceptance of the rules of DMRC as regards the bids for the civil construction works.

Among the other decisions taken by the Cabinet were renaming the “Manyavar Kanshi Ram Agriculture and Technological University, Banda” as “Banda Agriculture and Technological University”.

Accordingly, the Cabinet grated approval to the Uttar Pradesh Agriculture and Technological University ( Amendment ) Bill, 2014.
