Union Budget anti-people: Shivraj

February 26, 2010 07:26 pm | Updated 07:26 pm IST - Bhopal:

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Friday criticised the union budget, especially the Centre’s development package for Bundelkhand.

Calling it a hard blow to the aspirations of ‘aam aadmi’ , Mr. Chauhan said that the union budget had made life worse for the common man, already struggling with price rise.

He said that the Centre had already increased the price of urea by 10per cent before the budget and the budget further increased the prices of coal and other fertilizers, making it difficult for farmers of the country to survive.

Mr. Chauhan also criticized the hike in petrol and fuel prices saying it would increase transportation costs leading to a rise in essential commodities.

Regarding Bundelkhand, the Chief Minister said that the announced package of Rs.1,200 crore was not even sufficient for the part of the region falling in Madhya Pradesh. He said that the Centre had ignored his demand of Rs. 2,400 crore for the Madhya Pradesh part of Bundelkhand, along with financial assistance for the Vindhya and Mahakaushal regions of the State.

Mr. Chauhan further criticised the Centre for the Rs. 5,000 crore outlay for the energy sector, saying it was not sufficient for the country’s energy need.
