Even as Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not decided whether water cuts should be withdrawn or extended, Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday said cuts should be extended till all the six lakes, main source of water for Mumbai, have sufficient water.
“Lakes need to have sufficient water to suffice the needs of the city till next monsoon. As lakes still have 32 per cent less water level than their actual quota. BMC should not be in a hurry to lift water cuts,” Thackeray said on the sidelines of his visit to lakes Modak Sagar and Tansa.
Cuts should be lifted once Bhatsa Lake, the largest supplier of water, and other lakes overflow. Lakes need to reach their actual limit so that Mumbaikars can have a trouble free year ahead, Thackeray said.

All the six lakes -- Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Vihar, Tulsi and Tansa have 9,50,449 million litres of water against the 7,24,242 million litres of water during the same period last year.
Good rainfall this time has led to considerable amount of water in all the six lakes, Thackeray said.
Presently, with 15 and 30 per cent water cuts for residential and commercial users respectively, the city receives 3,000 mld of water against the demand of 4,300 mld.

In the backdrop of scanty rainfall, the civic body had imposed water cuts since June last year.
