Suspected Naga militant involved in killing of an MP arrested

A suspected Naga militant allegedly involved in the killing of a former MP in Arunachal Pradesh was arrested in Manipur, official sources said today.

The activist of National Socialist Council of Nagaland -Isac Muivah (NSCN-IM) identified as Kaping Luikham was nabbed from Imphal area last evening by a team of Central Bureau of Investiation (CBI) special crime branch from Kolkata, the sources said.

Luikham was allegedly involved in the killing of the former MP from Arunachal Pradesh Wangcha in 2007 December and injuring his friend L Kanglom while the two were playing badminton, the sources said.

Luikham was produced before a local court which sent him to CBI custody seven days on Wednesday, the sources said.

The CBI team immediately took him to Arunachal Pradesh.

Wangcha had supported the imposition of the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act in some parts of Arunachal Pradesh where NSCN-IM was actively operating in the area, the sources said.
