Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said on Thursday that the people of the State would consign the former MP, Navjot Singh Sidhu, to political oblivion for ditching the BJP for a “bright future.”

“…people of the State would teach him a lesson for treachery because they have a strong dislike for those who deceive their parties,” he said at the Sangat Darshan programme held at Tapa in Barnala. “Opportunist politicians like Mr. Sidhu have no place in Punjab.”

Mr. Badal said the Aam Aadmi Party was proving to be a haven for politicians who enjoyed no support among the people. “These people don’t have any ideological bonding, but have joined hands in the false hope of assuming power.”

Mr. Badal said Congress president Capt. Amarinder Singh was anti-farmer. “Capt. Amarinder had welcomed the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, to lay the foundation for the Satluj Yamuna Link Canal,” he said. At Dhilwan, Mr. Badal told journalists that the Opposition was defaming the Punjabis by labelling them as drug addicts. “The problem is less severe in Punjab than in many other States.”
