Shiv Basant was appointed as new chief secretary of Jharkhand on Saturday.
Mr. Basant, an IAS officer of 1976 batch and chairman of the state Finance Commission, will take charge on September 1, a Raj Bhavan release said.
He succeeds A K Basu who is retiring on August 31.
