Following Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao’s rejection of a plea to waive the remaining jail term of actor Sanjay Dutt, convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, the actor’s lawyer said on Friday that he did not file the petition.

“The recent articles published stating that the Governor turned down Dutt’s plea for pardon are purely based on the application made by justice Markandey Katju seeking pardon for Dutt and other convicts,” Dutt’s lawyer Hitesh Jain, lawyer of Sanjay Dutt said in a statement.

“No such application for grant of pardon was ever made by Dutt or his family members to the Maharashtra Governor,” the statement said.
