SIT clean chit to six in Muzaffarnagar riot cases

The Special Investigative Team (SIT) probing the Muzaffarnagar riots, found Sachin and Gaurav to be involved in the murder of Shahnawaz who was stabbed to death alleged by eight people on August 27, 2013.

Sachin and Gaurav, both the accused were lynched by a mob in Kawal village when they were trying to run after killing Shahnawaz.

The killing of these youths were among the initial few murders which triggered the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts in western Uttar Pradesh.

The police booked eight people in Shahnawaz murder case. The SIT which submitted a closure report in the case also gave clean chit to six other accused in the murder case of Shahnawaz.

According to the closure report filed by the SIT inspector Sampurnanad Tiwari the six accused Prahlad, Vishan, Devender, Jitendra, Yoginder and Ravinder were not found involved in Shahnawaz's murder.

But the SIT closure report will be challenged by Shahnawaz’s father Mohammad Waseem who alleged botched up investigation by the SIT.

The police had also charge sheeted five accused Mujassim, Furkan, Muzammil, Madeem and Jahangeer in the murder case of Sachin and Gaurav. The case is being heard in the local court.
