Unidentified dacoits broke into the Rewa royal museum late on Tuesday night, killed a guard and made off with antiquities worth crores. The museum, located within the Rewa fort premises, houses several valuable objects of the erstwhile Rewa state. While the exact value of the stolen antiquities is unknown, some reports claimed that the robbers managed to get away with the royal throne, a silver umbrella, some swords and a few antique muskets.

“The robbers broke into the museum and killed security guard Kemla Prasad before fleeing with several antiquities,” Rewa SP B.S. Chouhan told TheHindu .

“From the historic point of view and the heritage of the erstwhile Rewa state, the stolen objects were certainly very valuable,” said Mr. Chouhan. No arrests have been made yet.
