John Fernandes, accused in the rape case of a Russian girl, could be in further trouble as he has failed to produce before police the clothes which he wore during the alleged crime.

The crime branch, which is investigating the case, on Wednesday verified through the victim that the clothes which were deposited by the accused, were not the one which he wore on December 1 night when he allegedly raped her in his car near Colva beach.

The girl was quizzed by police inspector Sunita Sawant at crime branch head office at Donapaula near here Wednesday afternoon.

Police sources said that John, who owns a boat making firm named `boat craft’ in south Goa, had worn a T-shirt with his company logo at the back and on the left chest. “We found several T-shirts from his house with logos but we could not get the right T-shirt,” a senior officer said. “All the T-shirts had a logo at the back and not in the front as described by the victim,” he said.

John, who is currently in police custody, was taken to the scene of crime on Monday and also to his residence in Colva village from where the clothes were seized.

“We want his clothes as the evidence. We have decided to charge John for destroying evidence as we are yet to get the T-shirt,” police said.
