The Rajasthan Government has sought an allocation of Rs.346.91 crore from the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry during the 11th Five Year Plan for increasing the number of seats for post-graduate courses in the State’s medical colleges from 367 to 699.
State Medical and Health Minister Aimaduddin Ahmed Khan said here on Thursday that the Union Ministry had recently asked for proposals for release of financial assistance up to Rs.50 crore for each government medical college for starting new post-graduate courses. “The State Government’s proposals have covered all the six medical colleges,” he added.
The State Government has recommended an addition of 66 post-graduate seats at S.M.S. Medical College, Jaipur, 55 at S.N. Medical College, Jodhpur, 65 at R.N.T. Medical College, Udaipur, 50 at Medical College, Kota, and 36 at J.L.N. Medical College, Ajmer. The proposals, if approved, will increase twofold the number of seats in the medical colleges.

Mr. Khan said his ministry had already convened a meeting in connection with the proposals and expressed the hope that the Centre would approve the State’s demand shortly.
