RS polls: BSP MLAs to vote for Cong. in M.P.

June 05, 2016 12:05 am | Updated November 17, 2021 04:29 am IST - LUCKNOW:

Our support to Congress is only to weaken communal forces, says BSP chief Mayawati

After backing the Congress in the Uttarakhand floor test, the Bahujan Samaj Party would now also extend support it in the Rajya Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh. BSP leader Mayawati on Saturday announced that the party’s four MLAs in M.P. would vote for the Congress, which has fielded a lone candidate, Vivek Tankha.

She said her support to the Congress was only to “weaken communal forces.” As the BSP did not have enough numbers to win even a single seat, it would focus on the “main battle” against the communal forces, she said.

In May, the BSP’s two MLAs in Uttarakhand, Haridas and Sarwat Karim Ansari, supported the Congress in the floor rest in the State, helping it prove its strength in the House.
