The decks were cleared for the release of Pranati Deka, cultural secretary of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), after she was granted bail in two cases on Tuesday. But the self-styled deputy-commander-in-chief Raju Baruah was refused bail in four TADA cases.
Deka will be set free once Rs. 1 lakh in surety is deposited in the designated court. Raju Baruah was denied bail in the four cases, though he was granted bail on October 13 by a special court, despite the Central Bureau of Investigation opposing his bail plea in another case.
Deka was granted bail in a TADA case, in which she was co-accused with Raju Baruah. In another case filed by the Special Operation Unit of the Assam police in which Raju Baruah and she were accused, the court granted her bail, but left out Raju Barua.
