Police fear Maoists’ attack on Odisha

Maoists from outside the State are planning for something inside Odisha, said State Director General of Police (DGP) K. B. Singh.

Speaking to newsmen on Monday evening during his visit to the Ganjam district and Berhampur, Mr Singh said the Odisha Police were prepared to thwart any plans of the Maoists.

Activities on the decline

According to him, the activities by the Maoists in several districts were on the decline. In Odisha, the Maoists have presence in 19 districts.

Recently, they have been trying to increase their base in Boudh, Angul and Sonepur districts, he said.

Answering a question, Mr Singh said till now there are no plans for aerial attacks against the Maoists in Odisha.

The DGP said Berhampur would become a police commissionerate soon.

Several citizens’ organisations including the local chamber of commerce and the Ganjam Bar Association had shown concern over the matter.

The DGP urged all to use citizens’ portal of the Odisha police whenever they felt personnel at police stations were not addressing their problems in proper manner.

Mr Singh also inaugurated the new police station building at Khallikote as well as women and children desks at Ganjam and Gosaninuagaon police stations.
