New army Chief General V. K. Singh will review the security situation and visit forward areas to access counter-infiltration measures during his maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir from Tuesday after taking charge.
During the three-day visit, Mr. Singh, who has led counter-insurgency operations in the State, will be briefed at Leh-based 14 Corps headquarters and later at 15-Crops headquarters in Srinagar about the security situation, anti-terrorism operations and cross-border infiltration, a senior army official said.
Mr. Singh is scheduled to visit Northern Command headquarter at Udhampur and will hold discussions with Northern Command chief Lt Gen B. S. Jaswal.

He is scheduled to visit 16 Corps headquarters at Nagrota in Jammu and forward areas in Poonch, Mendhar and Akhnoor for an on-the-spot assessment of cross-infiltration measures and border situation.
The army chief will also meet Governor N. N. Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and discuss with them the security situation, infiltration and other issues before leaving for New Delhi on April 22, the official said.
Mr. Singh is well versed with the northern theatre and the entire conduct of counter infiltration and counter terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir. He commanded 2nd Rajput on the Line of Control and took charge as General Officer Commanding of Counter insurgency Victor Force in the valley besides Chief of Staff (COS) of 15 Crops.

During his long tenure in the valley, he left a major impact on army’s modus operandi, he said.
Accompanied by his wife Bharti, the army chief will arrive in Leh on Tuesday on the first leg of his visit.
