Children’s Day was celebrated with much fanfare here, the country’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s hometown, on the occasion of his 120th birth anniversary on Saturday.
Congress workers led by UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi and senior party leader Pramod Tiwari garlanded a life-size portrait of Nehru at Anand Bhawan, the ancestral home of the former prime minister.
Various cultural programmes were organised in educational institutions across the city on the occasion.

Meanwhile, a section of the Congress workers expressed their resentment over the Uttar Pradesh government’s alleged negligence of monuments installed in Nehru’s memory.
Led by former union minister Satya Prakash Malaviya, the workers staged demonstrations at a park named after Nehru and at a crossing where his statue is installed and accused the Mayawati government of being “disrespectful” towards Nehru.
