Mercury rises in many parts of north India

Mercury breached the 40-degree mark on Thursday in several parts of the country with Sriganganagar in Rajasthan being the hottest at 45.3 degrees Celsius.

Churu followed with 44.8 degrees Celsius while Phalodi recorded 44 degrees, Kota 43.6, Jaipur 42.0, Bikaner 42.2, Barmer 42.1 and Ajmer 41.7 degrees Celsius.

In the twin states of Punjab and Haryana, Hisar was the hottest at 43 degrees Celsius followed by Ludhiana, Ambala, Patiala, Chandigarh and Amritsar at 42.6, 42.3, 42, 41, 40.3 degrees Celsius respectively.

In Uttar Pradesh, light to moderate rain and thundershowers occurred at isolated places in eastern parts of the State while it was dry in the western parts.

According to the Met Department, 3 cm of rainfall was recorded at Harriya while Chandradeepghat, Regoli, Kakardharighat each received 1 cm of rain.-PTI
