Mohammad Ekramul (22), a progeria patient, who recently shot to limelight after superstar Amitabh Bachchan essayed a progeria-suffering ‘Auro’ in Paa, died at a government hospital here.

Ekramul’s family said he had been suffering from cold and fever for the last few days and was admitted to the hospital a day back before he died at the Sadar hospital in Bihar’s Saran district on Thursday.

Ekramul is the second son of Razia Khatoon, a resident of Dumari village here, who had five progeria-afflicted children.

Three of them had died a few years ago.

There are between 35 and 45 known cases in the world. The disorder occurs in one per eight million live births. Those born with progeria are said to live about 13 years, although many have been known to live into late teens and rare may even reach their forties.

With Paa hitting the screens all over the nation earlier this month, there was a buzz in the media about the people suffering from the rare disease and media persons descended on the nondescript house of Khatoon to interview the siblings.
