Mamata debuts on Twitter

Within an hour of joining the social networking site, she notched up 1,000 followers.

In an attempt to reach out to a wider audience on the social media, All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee joined, Twitter, a microblogging website on Thursday.

The official website of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) stated that Ms. Banerjee joined Twitter as @MamataOfficial on January 1, the foundation day of the TMC.

Ms. Banerjee managed to get more than a thousand followers within an hour of joining Twitter, the website added. “A New Year. A new beginning for me on Twitter,” was her first tweet.

The Trinamool Congress chief also pledged commitment to developmental work in the state on the occasion of her party’s foundation day.

“Today is the Foundation Day of AITC. We are 16+ now. My heartiest greetings and best wishes to Maa, Mati, Manush of Bengal,” she tweeted.

“We are committed to work for development of the people. We look forward to your help and co-operation. Happy New Year to all,” she added.
