Lalgarh firing death toll rises to eight

The death toll in the January 7 firing at a Lalgarh village in West Midnapore district rose to eight on Friday, with the death of an injured undergoing treatment at a State-run hospital here.

Hospital sources said Gitali Adak, who was admitted to the SSKM hospital, succumbed to serious injury in her stomach.

Seven persons, including two woman, were killed and over 20 injured in the firing by alleged CPI-M cadres on a crowd at Netai village in the Lalgarh police station area in the Maoist-affected West Midnapore district, which Governor M.K. Narayanan described as a “It is a day of sorrow and shame” for the State.
