In an appeal to both underground activists as well as members of the mainstream Naga society, Maharastra Governor S C Jamir has asked all sections to realise that they were one and stood for peace.
“I am appealing to both politicians and undergrounds (activists) to realise that Nagas are one and want peace. The younger generation wants to progress without any hindrance,” Mr. Jamir said while addressing the National Rock contest event near here on Sunday evening as the chief guest.
The former Nagaland chief minister called upon political leaders, members of underground organisations as well as civil societies and NGOs, to work in unison to bequeath the present generation “a legacy of peace, harmony” for making a prosperous society.

Emphasising that the Nagas must come together with peace commitment on their lips, Mr. Jamir observed “only in a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere the younger generation could get the opportunity to be exposed to the competitive world and develop their skill.”
The national level rock contest, where the grand finale will be held this evening, is part of the week-long Hornbill festival which will end today.
Mr. Jamir, who initiated the festival as a tourism promotional activity when he was at the helm, appreciated present Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for developing infrastructure at Kisama Heritage Village, 10 km south of Kohima.

He also appreciated Rio’s efforts in adding international flavour to the annual event where an estimated 500 foreign tourists turned up.
Besides all the North-Eastern states, the festival this year witnessed participation of cultural troupes from Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Myanmar and diplomats from European countries.
