The ruling JD(U) in Bihar today termed as “cheating” the doubling of fund allocation from the Centre to the state and instead demanded for a special status.
“Bihar doesn’t want a special package....it should be accorded a special state status,” JD(U) spokesperson Sanjay Singh said in a press statement.
Alleging that the Centre was “cheating” Bihar by showing “lollypops”, Mr. Singh said, “The Centre will not be allowed to cheat and mislead us on the issue for a long period”.

He also accused the Centre of adopting a discriminatory attitude towards Bihar.
Earlier, the Centre had announced doubling of fund allocation under a special plan for Bihar to Rs 2,000 crore for the current fiscal.
Effectively, the increase in central allocation would mean that the NDA-ruled State can spend extra Rs 1,000 crore on power, roads and irrigation within the three months ending March 31, 2011.

The decision to enhance allocation to the special plan for Bihar was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
