JD(U) candidate held with Rs. 8 lakh in Bihar

A JD(U) candidate, who is seeking a second term from Narkatia Assembly constituency in Bihar, was arrested from a hotel here for allegedly possessing a suitcase with Rs. 8.10 lakh in cash.

MLA Shyam Bihari Prasad of JD(U) was taken into custody from a hotel late last night for carrying a suitcase with Rs. 8.10 lakh in cash in violation of the model code of conduct for elections, Superintendent of Police Paras Nath said.

Since the offence was bailable under provisions of the Representation of the People Act, he was later released on furnishing a bail bond from the Town police station where he was brought from the hotel.

“The money has been confiscated,” Mr. Nath said.
