Interpol notices likely against 2008 Assam blasts accused

Interpol is likely to issue notices against three more accused in the 2008 Assam serial blasts as the CBI, which is investigating the case, received inputs about their presence in Bangladesh.

Confirming this, CBI sources here said the Interpol had recently issued red corner notices against two key accused in the blasts named among the 19 chargesheeted by CBI.

The Interpol notice was issued against Baksa-native Rajen Goyari alias Rifikhang, top-most leader of NDFB, who is absconding after the arrest of ‘c-in-c’ Ranjan Daimary and his deputy George Boro.

Ranjan Daimary was ‘handed over’ by Bangladesh last year, while George — who also had a red corner notice against him — was caught last month in Mizoram.

The agency has also issued a notice against Biswagi Thorai, a 26-year-old woman, also believed to be in Bangladesh. According to the Interpol website, the duo was involved in “use of weapons, explosives and terrorism“.

CBI sources said today the agency would move Interpol shortly seeking notices against at least three more fugitives — Tarun Swargiary, Tensu Narzary alia Thungri Boro and J Daimary.

They are also reportedly hiding in the neighbouring country after arrest warrants were issued against them by a special judicial magistrate in Guwahati, the sources said.

The CBI in May, 2009 had filed a chargesheet against 19 people, including NDFB founder—chairman Ranjan Daimary, in the October 30 serial blasts in Assam.

Filed at the court of the special judicial magistrate in Guwahati, the 35-page chargesheet names 828 witnesses and lists 762 documents, including post-mortem reports, confessional statements of those apprehended and details of calls made by some of the accused, among other things.

Eighty-eight persons had died in nine serial blasts in Guwahati, Barpeta Road, Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon on October 30, 2008. The number of listed injured is 540.

Charges have been framed against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Explosives Substances Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
