Buoyed by a significant spurt in the surrender of Maoist cadres, particularly in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, the Union Home Ministry has advised all Naxal-hit States to ensure proper rehabilitation measures and implementation of welfare schemes to encourage others to shun violence.

The latest government figures reveal that over 260 Naxals, including key military company commanders, have surrendered this year as against a total of 283 in 2013. Under the MHA’s rehabilitation policy, grants for surrender of a senior politburo member have been increased to Rs.20 lakh, Rs.18 lakh for the central committee member and Rs.16 lakh to a regional bureau member.
