The Gujarat High Court on Thursday ordered transfer of N.K. Amin, an accused wanting to be an approver in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, from Sabarmati Central Jail here to the Vadodara Jail following security concerns raised by the CBI.
Justice Jayant Patel, passed the orders after CBI special counsel K.T.S Tulsi told the court that there was threat to Mr. Amin’s life in Sabarmati jail, where he was lodged with other co-accused.
Mr. Tulsi had sought transfer of Mr. Amin, the suspended police officer from Sabarmati jail to any other prison, based on an application made by Mr. Amin’s wife to the CBI in July.

The transfer order was given when the court was hearing a petition by the CBI where the central agency has challenged a lower court order, referring Mr. Amin’s plea to become an approver in the case to the High Court, to assess its constitutional validity.
The Court also said that Mr. Amin should immediately be transferred to the Vadodara Jail under police escort. It said that IG -Prisons should personally look into the matter and ensure his safety in jail.
Mr. Tulsi’s submission that Mr. Amin’s confessional statement be recorded while continuing with the hearing on constitutional validity of his plea, was rejected by the court which scheduled further hearing in the case on September 14.
