The Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) has decided to tap the vast solar energy potential of the country by venturing into solar power generation, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Power) Madhusudan Prasad said on Thursday.
Since solar energy has great potential as a future energy source, the Board of Directors of HPGCL has decided to set up Grid Interactive Solar Power Plants on turnkey basis on the available land at its thermal and hydel generating stations at Panipat, Yamunanagar and Hisar, he disclosed.
Mr. Prasad further said that the Central Government had launched Jawahar Lal Nehru National Solar Mission (JLNNSM) under the brand name ‘Solar India' to have in place 20,000 MW of installed solar generation capacity by 2022.

He added that as a first step, HPGCL would engage the services of a reputed consultant to prepare Feasibility cum Detailed Project Reports (FDPRs) to identify the actual potential of solar power generation from the available land at its thermal and hydel generating stations and the most suitable technology proposed to be adopted.
