Tension prevails in Gohana village; arrest of policemen sought.

Two policemen were suspended from duty a day after they were accused of beating a Dailt boy to death in custody in Gohana village in Sonepat district of Haryana. They were booked for murder and a probe ordered.

The boy, Govinda, was on Wednesday morning accused by a family of ironsmiths of stealing four pigeons, a mobile phone and a few thousand rupees in cash. He was subsequently summoned to the police station.

Govinda’s brother Gautam had accompanied him to the station but was allegedly directed to arrange Rs 5,000 as bribe. “My family and I got the money, but were again told to arrange 10,000. When we expressed out inability to arrange the money, we were told that Govinda would not be released,” said Mr. Gautam on Friday. When he visited the station later, he was told by the police that Govinda had escaped from their custody.
