As a part of promoting medical tourism in the Gujarat, the State government has undertaken a Rs. 100 crore project involving construction of an Ayurveda college and a 300-bed Ayurveda hospital in the State, Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas has said.
“Ayurveda has a capacity to cure all types of diseases known since ages and as a part of reviving faith of the people in Ayurvedic treatment, the government of Gujarat has taken up this project which will be completed within two years,” Mr. Vyas told PTI adding “its tendering process has already started.”
Mr. Vyas was in the city last night to unveil the statue of Lord Dhanvantari at the official residence of Ramesh K Goyal, Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University.

“This will be a unique type of hospital in the country which will attract patients from different parts of the country and abroad,” the minister said.
Mr. Vyas congratulated Goyal for taking the initiative in the installation of Dhanvantari statue in his bungalow.
“With the increasing demand of herbal medicines, to educate the common man about the medicinal value of plants present in Dhanvantari building, this exercise was undertaken by the students and teaching members of the Botany department of the university,” Mr. Goyal said.

‘Dhanvantari’ is a repository of medicinal and other useful herbs. Plants located from Dhanvantari are used in various Indian systems of medicine especially Ayurveda.
“After enumerating these 160 plants from Dhanvantari building premises, they are presented in the hand book and all the recorded plants are listed with their scientific name, Gujarati name and most importantly medicinal uses,” Mr. Goyal said.
A hand guide of cures for various ailments like diabetes, Rheumatism, jaundice among others is given at the end of the book which was released by Mr. Vyas.
