The 100 km long gas pipeline between Gokak (Karnataka) and Goa would be ready by 2012 and give impetus to industries relying on gas as their prime raw material, a senior petroleum ministry official said on Saturday.
Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) Secretary S. Sundareshan told reporters that the work on laying pipeline connecting Gokak to Goa would complete by mid-2012.
Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) will tap the Dabhol (Maharashtra) and Bangalore pipeline at Gokak supplying gas to Goa, he said.

This pipeline is expected to supply gas to firms like Zuari Industries Limited (ZIL), Reliance Power Plant, Binani Glass and others, who will pay for the facility.
GAIL has envisaged this project costing Rs. 400 crore.
Sundareshan said that the industrial requirement of gas in Goa is to the tune of four million cubic metres a day.

He also said GAIL will be charging the companies to provide gas at their doorstep through the pipeline.
He said such a facility will provide impetus to the gas-based industries in Goa. Sundareshan said that the State has seen 14 per cent increase in the petrol while six to seven per cent rise in diesel consumption.
With four lakh LPG connections covering a population of 14 lakh, the annual growth in LPG connections is 10 per cent, Sundareshan added.
