Five Maoists, policeman killed in Chhattisgarh

The Chhattisgarh police on Tuesday claimed to have killed five Maoists, including a top commander, during three encounters in Bastar.

D.M. Awasthi, Special Director-General of Police (Anti-Naxal Operations), Chhattisgarh, said an encounter took place between a team of Narayanpur police and Maoists in Jangda village under the Koyalbeda police station limits on Tuesday.

The operation was launched on a tip-off.

The body of a top Maoist commander, along with one AK-47, was recovered. In total, five Maoists were killed.

Police head constable, Bhuneshwar Mandavi, was killed in the Narayanpur encounter.

Two more encounters were reported from Bastar. However, the police refused to share details saying the operation is still on.
