Rahul, Kejriwal attend ex-jawan’s funeral

The last rites of retired Army jawan Ram Kishan Grewal, who committed suicide over the One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue on Tuesday, were performed at his native village Bamla on Thursday.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi arrived to attend the cremation along with party leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Kamal Nath, Kiran Choudhry and Shailaja. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also present.

Locals and the relatives of the ex-serviceman attended the funeral. Mr. Kejriwal announced Rs. 1 crore for the family of Ram Kishan Grewal.

Earlier, the family brought the body to the village around 3 a.m. on Thursday.

The 69-year-old former jawan was protesting over the OROP issue at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. His suicide plunged the capital into chaos on Wednesday with the police detaining and releasing Mr. Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia and Mr. Gandhi.
