Doubtful that Badaun girls were raped: CBI

August 20, 2014 12:16 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 06:44 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Although the agency could not exhume the bodies of the victims for a fresh round of post-mortem, the official said the forensic evidence was enough to solve the mystery behind the murders.

The Central Bureau of Investigation, based on its findings, believes that a concocted story of rape was woven to conceal the real motive behind the murder of two Badaun cousins in May.

“It is doubtful that the victims were raped. We have gone through the report received from the Hyderabad-Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics. The report has been forwarded to the three-member expert committee for final conclusions,” an official said.

Although the agency could not exhume the bodies of the victims for a fresh round of post-mortem, the official said the forensic evidence was enough to solve the mystery behind the murders.

Parents’ role being probed

Reports on the lie-detector tests of the five accused earlier arrested by the U.P. police have virtually given them a clean-chit. If the agency fails to file a charge-sheet against them within the stipulate time period of three months, they could be out on bail.

The CBI is also probing the role of the parents of the two teenaged victims.
